Tell us about your journey and how you founded Hempme!
Hempme was founded in 2016 by myself and partner Leigh. We were interested in starting our own company and knew we wanted to do something with the world's most versatile and eco-friendly plant, hemp. After some initial research, we saw there was a big gap in the market for a modernised/ high-quality take on hemp-based skin care and started figuring out how to bring our vision to fruition.
Skin secret weapon?
Hemp seed oil of course! You will not find a more balanced oil on the planet. Hemp seed oil contains high amounts of all essential amino acids and is a rich source of linoleic acid - best known for its ability to hydrate and protect the skin. Both antibacterial and antifungal, hemp seed oil has shown to relieve a variety of pesky skin conditions.
What do you want women to know?
Skin care doesn’t need to be complicated, or full of non-natural ingredients. Nature has provided so many incredible ingredients that can do wonders for your skin.
What’s your power mantra?
I don’t have a power mantra per say, but love to continually inspire myself with music. We always have music playing at our place, especially when we are working away on Hempme. Old, new, different genres, there is so much good music out there and I am always searching for my new favourite artist or song.
I tend to knit-pick from a few different podcasts depending on the guests and topics. A few favourites include The Joe Rogan Experience, Tim Ferriss Podcast and the Bitcoin Knowledge Podcast.
What’s your happy place outfit?
Nothing beats board shorts and a singlet on a beautiful sun-soaked beach.
What book can’t you put down?
I just finished Matthew Walker's book, “Why We Sleep”. What a fascinating and eye-opening book on the importance of sleep.
Most opened app?
Spotify. I was somewhat late getting on the Spotify bandwagon, but can’t imagine going without it now (even though I know artists get royally screwed).
Starting the day off right has a big influence on the rest of my day. Not being in a rush, ticking a few things off (even if small) before I get out the door usually sets me up to have a more productive day.
Self-care method of choice?
I like to keep my exercise interesting by doing different things each time. Running, boxing, kettlebell, sauna & plunge pool sessions. Keeping it different makes it more likely I will actually do it!
